Do you know any tip to stop a kerosene heater to smell so bad?

got me a kerosene heater last week to keep it in my workshop,the smell is terrible,came back to the store the employee recommended to pour some clear solution in the kerosene tank,it didn't work!! somebody else told me since the heater is brand new to let the heater burn the kerosene outside my shop for about week,done that,it didn't work,to buy a electric heater wouldn't be a bright idea,my electric bill will let me know and a gas heater is also expensive,do you any tip to stop the smell,thanks
