So, I bought Finnegans Wake yesterday....?

How should I read this book? Should I use guide books, or should I just enjoy the language and forget about the concept of meaning? Do you think that "understanding it" is even key to the enjoyment of the novel? I just want to have a good time, as I did with the book's predecessors.
